Why did you choose the nuclear field or how did you end up in the nuclear field?

I discovered the nuclear world by what I call “ a divine intervention.” I was at friend’s house for Easter dinner and her brother who I had never met found out about me having a Chemistry degree. He asked if I have ever heard of Turkey Point Nuclear, and I had no idea. I sent my resume to him, and this ENTIRE world opened for me, and the rest is history. My journey in Nuclear has been a personal journey involving a combination of inspiration, opportunity, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the energy industry and my community.

What do you think is the most important benefit of nuclear science, technology, or energy and why?

The fact that Nuclear is MASSIVE and encompasses so many benefits for the future. Additionally, nuclear technology has applications beyond energy, including medical uses such as in cancer treatment and diagnostics, which significantly contribute to improving health outcomes. The ability to offer both environmental and societal benefits underscores its importance and potential in fostering sustainable development.

Is there something about your job that most people are surprised to hear?

First thing is that it’s SAFE!! As a Chemistry Leader, people might have been surprised by how integral chemistry is to maintaining safety and efficiency in nuclear operations.

What advice do you have for women in the nuclear field?

So much advice I would give, but I would simply say it is important to show up as your AUTHENTIC self! As women, we have so many roles that we play, and we have maintained balance. Sometimes we may not feel valued or seen even with all the experience and credentials to get the job done; we must stay connected and engaged to propel the Nuclear Mission!

Why did you join U.S. Women in Nuclear?

It’s one of my absolute passions. The platform adds so much value to the industry, and it really aligns to helping educate the young and the old about Nuclear. Joining organizations like U.S. Women in Nuclear can be driven by a desire to connect with others in the field, advocate for diversity, and support the empowerment and professional development of women in the nuclear industry. Being part of such a community can provide a platform for sharing experiences, accessing mentorship opportunities, and contributing to initiatives that promote equity and inclusion in STEM fields. It’s also a way to build valuable networks, collaborate on projects, and advance one’s own understanding and career within the nuclear science and technology sector.

What is your favorite aspect of U.S. WIN?

My favorite aspect of U.S. WIN involves several reasons, but the standout has been the relationships I’ve developed through it. The resources offered by U.S. WIN, along with staying updated on new developments in the industry, are invaluable. Additionally, joining a committee within U.S. WIN has been a fantastic opportunity, and I’m excited to continue being a part of this incredible organization.
