2026 Regions I & II Workshop

Regions I & II Workshop Delivers Powerful Results

Over 100 Nuclear Professionals Gather in Kings Mountain, NC for Impactful Collaboration

This February, in Kings Mountain, NC, more than 100 women from U.S. WIN Regions I and II came together for “Amplifying Impact: Connected Voices in Nuclear Progress”—a workshop that proved collaboration truly drives results.

What made this event special wasn’t just the content, it was how it came together. For the first time, the workshop operated without a single host sponsor. Instead, participants pooled their resources, expertise, and time, creating a powerful example of the collaborative spirit that defines our industry’s future.

The workshop opened with a keynote from Nicole Flippin, Senior Vice President of Nuclear Operations at Duke Energy, who set the tone focused on leadership, innovation, and impact. Attendees gained practical tools for nuclear advocacy, learned best practices in community engagement, and explored how collective expertise drives technological advancement and policy alignment.

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 92% of attendees rated the workshop 4-5 out of 5 stars
  • 89% felt the event aligned perfectly with their professional goals
  • 72% gave the highest possible rating

Feedback highlighted excellent speaker quality, strong organization, and the perfect balance of content with U.S. WIN’s strategic objectives.

True to the nuclear industry’s commitment to community service, attendees supported local families through donations to Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, providing essential resources to 150 families during challenging winter conditions.

The workshop honored outstanding leaders who embody U.S. WIN’s mission:

  • Region I Leadership Award: Melissa Milstrey, MPR Associates
  • Region II Leadership Award: Kaitlin Giles, Southern Nuclear

These awards recognize individuals who attract diverse talent to nuclear professions, foster inclusion, and create meaningful opportunities for growth and connection.

As participants learned throughout the workshop, nuclear progress is strongest when voices are connected across regions, generations, and roles. This event proved that when we come together—sharing resources, expertise, and vision—we can amplify our impact and drive meaningful change in the nuclear industry.

The success of this collaborative approach sets a powerful precedent for future events and demonstrates that our industry’s strength lies not in individual achievement, but in our collective commitment to innovation, advocacy, and leadership.
