CALVERT CLIFF PROVIDES SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH (STEM) OUTREACH

Calvert Cliffs Women In Nuclear (WIN) and North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) members spent several weeks helping local Patuxent-Appeal Campus Head Start Program complete a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Center for 4 and 5-year-old students. The volunteers helped put together equipment, build learning centers, and decorate the walls with some actual pictures and prints from Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. WIN members joined Calvert County Public School staff for the Ribbon Cutting on January 19, 2018. The 68 current Head Start Students that currently attend the Patuxent-Appeal Campus will use the center daily, developing our future local engineers and community leaders.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, volunteers headed out to support the Dowell Elementary School annual STEM Night. There, WIN members discussed atoms, fission, and carbon-free energy with Kindergarten through fifth-grade students.
