Detailed Description and Instructions:

I did an activity in my daughter’s preschool classroom (Ages 3-4 years old) for Career Day. There were 3 mini activities for the kids:
1. Group activity to “make” nuclear energy
2. Coloring sheet of an atom (from NEED webpage)
3. Give out blue glowsticks (“fuel rods”)

Details for each are below.

  1. Make Nuclear Power: Line the kids up side-by-side across room and have them “make” nuclear power as follows:
    • Smash the atoms together (clap your hands)
    • Make steam (Wiggle your fingers and say hiss)
    • Turn the turbine-generator (like wheels on the bus)
    • Electricity goes thru the power lines (Everyone in line hold hands and move hands up and down)
    • Electricity goes to your house (hold your hands over your head like a house roof)
    • The lights at your house go on and off (hold up your hands and open and close them like lights blinking)
    • Repeat for best lasting impact 🙂
  2. Coloring sheet from NEED webpage (link below)
  3. Give out blue glowsticks (“fuel rods”)
