Detailed Description and Instructions:
  • Recording of Marie’s Electric Adventure: a reading of the book was recorded using Microsoft Teams, edited with on-board Microsoft Tools, and sent to a local kindergarten to show to her class later in the week. To do this, create a meeting with just yourself, select ‘record meeting’, wait for the video to compile, and then edit as necessary.
  • University of Illinois WIN Tea Talk: U of I students invited members of the KSQ chapter to talk about their career so far, educational background, likes/dislikes of their current positions, effectiveness of graduate school or PE license in the industry, and internships. Conducted via Zoom with the chapter.
  • Virginia Commonwealth University Lecture: a Zoom lecture was presented for an undergraduate engineering course at VCU. Topics included pros/cons of passive and active safety systems at plants, likes/dislikes of the presenter’s position, academic insights, and imposter syndrome. The course materials are added below. All materials are generic/publicly available.
  • Cornell University Lecture: a Zoom lecture was conducted for an undergraduate engineering course at Cornell. Topics included PWR systems, PWR-BWR compare and contrast, and nuclear fuel. The course materials are added below. All materials are generic/publicly available.
  • Perkiomen Valley High School Nuclear Talk: talks were conducted for 65 high school chemistry students about nuclear power and career paths.
  • Dock Mennonite Academy: Kennett Square WIN member Vanessa Myers provided an introduction to nuclear power as well as an overview of careers available in the industry. The virtual presentation was given to fifteen middle school students at Dock Mennonite Academy in Montgomery County, the same county where Limerick Generating Station is located. Vanessa provided her career path and discussed the importance of clean, baseload energy in the generation portfolio. The students loved asking questions and were very engaged in the discussion, they were very interested in STEM and learning more about power generation and nuclear science.
