SRS-WIN Gives Out Scholarships

Recently, SRS-Women in Nuclear (SRS-WIN) president, Ragina Dicks, presented the group’s first ever Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarships to four deserving young women in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). The recipients were high school seniors, who had committed to institutions of higher learning with a declared major in a STEM related field.

Funds for the STEM scholarship were raised through the SRS-WIN VIP members, sponsorships from employee resources groups, local businesses, and registrations for the first ever “Boots on the Ground” 1k/5k Walk/Run, which was held last year.

Scholarships were awarded to the following:
Trinity Martin, Thompson High School
Pearl Hoodenpyle, Greenbrier High School
Carrie Lim, Grovetown High School
Annabelle Cowart, Midland Valley High School

SRS-WIN is a chapter of U.S. WIN and is a member of the U.S. WIN Region II. The chapters strategic objectives align with those of U.S. WIN., which include providing opportunities for nuclear professionals to develop leadership skills, network, and engage in public education outreach to the CSRA. The focus areas include nuclear science, technology, environmental stewardship, clean energy and national security.

The chapter is comprised of employees and retirees from the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Forest Service-Savannah River, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Savannah River National Laboratory, Savannah River Remediation, Centerra, and Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII). Collectively, these companies form a network of professionals that work in nuclear science, technology, business, engineering, and radiation-related fields at Savannah River Site.
